VP X85L is a leaded, race-formulated ethanol fuel blended to a fixed specification every batch: 85% ethanol and 15% premium hydrocarbons. It delivers both MON and RON greater than 120, which is exceptional for an ethanol-based fuel and provides strong detonation protection for high-compression competition engines.

Like X85, X85L is consistent drum to drum, unlike pump E85 which varies from 51% to 83% ethanol depending on season and region. The leaded formula adds detonation protection beyond what the unleaded X85 provides, making it the correct choice for classes where leaded fuel is permitted and maximum octane protection is required.

X85L is identifiable by its light purple color.

Frequently asked questions:

What is VP X85L race fuel? VP X85L is a leaded E85 race fuel blended to a fixed specification of 85% ethanol and 15% premium hydrocarbons every batch. It delivers MON and RON both greater than 120, providing exceptional detonation protection for high-compression competition engines. It is identifiable by its light purple color.

Why is X85L leaded? The leaded formula in X85L provides additional detonation protection beyond what the ethanol content alone delivers. For high-compression engines in classes where leaded fuel is permitted, the lead additive raises the effective octane ceiling and reduces the risk of detonation under extreme load.

What is the difference between VP X85L and VP X85? X85L is the leaded version of the X85 formula. Both are blended to the same 85% ethanol and 15% hydrocarbon specification and are consistent drum to drum. X85L adds a lead additive for additional detonation protection and achieves MON and RON both greater than 120. X85 is unleaded with a MON of 95.2 and RON of 108. Use X85L when your class rules permit leaded fuel and you need maximum octane protection.

What is the difference between VP X85L and VP C85? C85 is an unleaded ethanol fuel with a different base formulation, a RON of 106, and a lower stoichiometric A/F ratio of 9.20, suited for maximum-power drag and circle track applications. X85L is leaded, achieves RON >120, and has an A/F ratio of 9.78, making it better suited for high-compression applications in classes where leaded ethanol fuel is permitted.

Does VP X85L require hazmat shipping? Yes. X85L is a flammable liquid subject to hazmat regulations. A surcharge will be added at checkout and reflected in your shipping cost.
